Teacher Tribute Dinner Night!

On Thursday, May 11th, Mike was the KEYNOTE SPEAKER, yes ladies and gents...keynote speaker at the most prestigious event of the year for all the Santa Clarita school districts. He was nominated by his principal, and then chosen out of over 130 first year teachers, to speak at this dinner in front of over 500 people. He was pretty nervous, but he did SO amazing. He had them laughing, sighing, crying, and laughing some more. After he finished, he received a standing ovation from over half of the attendees. Two other speakers that followed him said, "Wow, how am I to follow that?" and "I can't hold a candle to the rookie!" It was a great success and a high point of this pretty turbulent first year of teaching. He had so many, I'm talking at least 50 or 60, people come up to him after the event was over, and congratulate him, thank him, and hug him. It was a really fun night and so wonderful to see Mike in his element and do so well. I was definitely one proud wife and felt very lucky to be standing next to him. Here is a picture of him doing his thing!
And here's a picture of the program and our table's placecards...note the "Keynote Speaker" on Mike's! :)

5 Bumps on a Log!

Isn't this just so cute! This is Maddy, holding Natalie, Cole, Davis, and Collin! I still can't believe we got these children to pose for the 10 seconds it took to take the picture. This was taken at Josh & Jenny Blanken's house during the Sawyer Goodbye party. After church on Sunday, a bunch of friends got together to say goodbye-for-now to them and we had a blast watching all the kids play together. Such a hustle-bustle when there are so many kids together in one house. A great time for a not-so-great reason to get together. But, we will see Shaun, Kristal and their beautiful daughter, Natalie, soon. They are moving to Arizona this Friday as Shaun just got a great worship leader position with the youth ministry department of an awesome church in Mesa. Shaun, we are so excited for you and we'll be praying that the Lord does great things through your talents. We'll miss you guys like crazy, as we really feel that the Lord has blessed us with your friendship and encouragement. However, we know that the Lord has big plans for your family! God bless and good luck! We love you guys!

Easter Eggs Gone Bad!!!

Can you believe my husband? His cheeks are UNBELIEVABLE!!! Cole was laughing so hard looking at his daddy!!! This house is always a riot, I tell ya!!!

Finally, a picture of Justin!

I finally remembered to get a couple of pictures of Justin, the little guy that I'm watching during the week. It's going pretty well, and again, I'm so glad to have some money coming in. Here's a couple of pictures of Justin and Cole playing together.

A Great Anniversary Date!

So this is a little late, but just wanted to let everyone know about our fun date on our anniversary. I planned a whole evening for Mike and I to go on an adventure. We started out at our house and he opened up his card, which had a clue in it to start off his anniversary scavenger hunt. That took us to the Santa Clarita pool where we played as kids, but never actually met. His present there was two pairs of awesome boardshorts. Then his next clue took him to Saugus High School where we met when I was in 9th grade, he was in the 10th. We walked around the campus for a few minutes and then he opened up his next present and clue, which was a little book about teachers and a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble. The clue led him to my house that I grew up at, on Cabrera Avenue. His gift there was a book on guitars and how to play. His next clue took him to Olive Garden, where we shared our first date about 9 years ago. It was at the Northridge Olive Garden, but I cheated and had him go to our new one here. Instead of eating dinner here, I had on order two pieces of tiramisu, our favorite dessert! His next clue led him to Grace Baptist's ampitheatre where Mike proposed to me on October 14, 2000. Here we took a picture with our timer on our camera and it turned out pretty cute!

Then we headed over to Kisho, our favorite restaurant, and where we announced our engagement to both of our families. After an incredible dinner, Mike's last clue led him to the Haven House chapel where we were married April 28, 2001! I packed up our wine bag and had Mike's last present in there, which were a pair of shamrock cuff links and a nice poem. All in all, the night was so much fun, a great time to walk down memory lane and remember all the special places in our relationship. And a thanks goes out to my mom for watching Cole and letting us have a few hours to ourselves!

A New Baby Boy!!

Congratulations to my cousin Steve and his beautiful wife, Morna, on the arrival of their first baby!!! Their son, Zachary Roderick Nish was born this morning around 6:30 a.m. after Morna's water broke in the middle of the night. Her due date wasn't until the 1st week of June, so when I got the call this evening, I was very surprised and excited!! We haven't even had her shower yet. :) Zachary weighed in at 5 lbs. 5 ozs. and I believe 18 1/2 inches long. Morna had to have a C-section as Zachary was in the breech position, so my sympathies go out to ya Morna! Just wanted to share the great news with everyone. Steve and Morna...you guys are going to make EXCELLENT parents. Thanks for letting us come and meet your little man! Praise God for a healthy baby boy and mama! I love you guys!

Happy 5th Anniversary!!!

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband!! I can't believe we've been married for five years already. In most ways, it seems as though just the other day we were driving around in my Escort talking about school and the latest gossip about our friends. And now we are here...married with a beautiful child, in a beautiful home, with tons of love for each other. I'm so grateful the Lord has had a hand in our marriage...I think that's what's kept us together for so long. I certainly feel blessed that God picked you for my soulmate and to be with be forever. Thank you to all our friends and family that have been so encouraging in the last 5 years and for helping us get through tough times and wonderful times. Your thoughts and prayers have been SO appreciated! Mike, my Mikey, my donkey, my butt-heeeaaaddd, my honey, thank you for making me the happiest woman in the world 5 years ago and continuing on this incredible journey with me. I will love you for a lifetime!

Cole's Cheesy Smile Finally Caught on Camera!

Here is Cole's famous "cheesy smile." This is the first one I have been able to catch on my camera. Everytime I get the camera out, he shies away and won't show me those two pearly whites! However, we finally convinced him that we needed it for posterity's sake! Doesn't he look chubby in this picture? I think so!

He's just such a ham...hmmmm...wonder where that came from??? :)

Peek-a-Boo!!

Cole says, "Peek-a-boo, Mama!"

You're probably wondering how in the world he got in there...well, you may have guessed right. His papa stuck him in there as a prisoner for continually destroying it. If you look at the first picture, you can easily see into the hamper. You're not supposed to be able to see into it...Cole has picked apart the wicker and is constantly trying to get the whole thing apart!! So, what goes around, comes around son! You'd better watch out! :)

Easter, Updates, News

Hello Everyone!! It's been over two weeks since my last blog entry and I know that I have been slacking off! I do have a bit of a reason though...I have started watching a little almost-5-month-old boy named Justin in the afternoons. It's been fun adjusting to all the new changes around here. Cole and Justin get along pretty well. Cole is really great with him and entertains him very well. Justin is still not so sure about this guy who is pretty loud and can scoot around him like crazy. I worked at Enterprise with Justin's dad, Eric, and they asked me when they got pregnant if I would think about watching their addition. I am very grateful to finally be pulling in a little money and helping out with the monthly expenses. It is a nice feeling actually contributing something tangible to the family other than meals, raising a kid, laundry and such. I know that is what counts most and I'm so excited that the Lord has afforded me this opportunity to continue to stay home with Cole and to make a little extra cash.
Anyway...Mike has been on Spring Break last week and this week and is thoroughly enjoying spending time with Cole and me. He has needed a break for a while and is so happy! He will go down to CSUN tomorrow night for his classes, but other than that we have been taking it easy for the last week and a half.
Last Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, we went up to Carpinteria and stayed with my mom and Emilie on their campsite. We were supposed to go up for the whole week, but I needed to watch Justin, so I just drove home for the 4 1/2 hours on Monday and Tuesday to watch him, and then drove back up. It was a ton of fun, and little damp. Mike, Cole and I tried out our new tent that we purchased a month ago...a huge 3-room deal with a doggy door and everything. It was quite an experience getting the thing actually up and ready, but once that was done, it was pretty cool. Cole did okay until about 1:30 a.m. when he woke up and I think was a little cold. So, I jumped up and got him and stuck him between Mike and I in our big double sleeping bag. He went right back to sleep, however, Mike and I didn't sleep at all for fear of rolling on to him! I saw the sun come up and was very excited to get out of the tent and move around. We walked over to the bird reserve about a block away from the campground and saw just a few birds and ducks. Nothing that I hadn't seen before, so I was kinda bummed. But it was still beautiful. We came home on Tuesday afternoon.
This is just a cool pic that Mike took of the beach.
Here's a great one of Cole and Grandma in the motorhome playing with his toys and having a blast!!!
This last weekend was fun...on Friday we went to the Passion/Good Friday service at Grace. It was AWESOME! My mom played harp in the orchestra and they sounded so amazing. I hope all of you had a chance to go that live in Santa Clarita! It was certainly worth it!! We just putted around on Saturday, saving up our energy for Easter Sunday. We woke up pretty early to go to church. We attended the 9 a.m service and then had nursery duty for the 10:45 service. I'll have to admit...we were not too excited about it, thinking it was gonna be packed, but it turned out to be just fine. There was actually only 6 kids in there and there were 5 workers. Not too bad!

Here is a couple of pictures of Cole in his Easter outifit...a three-piece that was quite a hit with the ladies! He decided that he did not want to smile for my camera, so I don't have any pics of him with that oh-so-adorable smile. After church, we headed on down to Camarillo to visit Mike's parents. Emilie, Brice, my mom and dad, Bob, Michelle, Brian, Lindsay, Ashlyn, Addison, Katy, Beau, and Beverly all had a great time eating, visiting, and eating some more! Michelle had quite the feast prepared for us. Bob and Michelle prepared an Easter egg hunt for Ashlyn and Cole and they had a blast hunting them down. Cole actually got it...it was really cute watching him find an egg, get so excited that he would shake :), pick it up, put it in his little basket, and move on to find the next one. He's so DARN cute!! Here's Cole and Ashlyn trying to figure out how to use a new toy that Grammy and PopPop gave them in their Easter baskets. Ashlyn and Addison had matching dresses on....TOO cute!
We've had a great last couple of weeks and we are so thankful for the sacrifice in which we celebrated over the weekend! It definitely has new meaning when you are a parent as you can see just how much God had to give up when he let his one and only son die for all of us. An amazing plan that I am so fortunate to be able to see and appreciate believing in Christ! God is good. He is RISEN!

Another Baby Girl...Welcome, Natalie Ryan!!

Another baby congratulations goes out to our good friends Shaun & Kristal Sawyer for the arrival of their beautiful daughter, Natalie Ryan. She came into the world at 10:45 a.m. on April 1st. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 oz. and was 21" long! Kristal was actually a week overdue and getting pretty anxious to meet her little baby, which was still a mystery to her and Shaun as they decided not to find out the sex of the baby. Her original due date was March 24th and when that came and went, we were all super excited every day to get a call and hear...okay, we are finally in labor. She went to the hospital for a check-up on Friday night and the doctors decided to induce because the amniotic fluid was getting a little to low for their likes. They started with Cervidel at about 8 p.m. and by 10 p.m., she was feeling some good contractions. By about 2:00 a.m. she was in a ton of pain and went for the epidural. Her and Shaun were actually able to get some sleep and when she awoke at 7:00 a.m. she was 9 cm dilated!! It only took her a little while to become fully dilated and after just over 1 1/2 hours of pushing, their beautiful daughter was born! Praise God for the relatively quick and painless delivery!!! Kristal, I'm so proud of you. You did such an awesome job...I knew you would! Mike, Cole, and I along with my parents were able to go and visit the new addition that afternoon. Natalie, welcome to this big world. We are so excited that you are finally here and we can hold you, kiss you, and love you. I know Cole thought you were pretty cute and can't wait to play with ya! :) Again, congratulations to you and welcome to parenthood...you are gonna love it!

Happy Birthday, Emilie-la...my beautiful sister!!!

Happy 24th Birthday to my dear sister, Emilie!! Yes, her real birthday is on April Fool's Day...she was born 7 1/2 weeks early and no one believed my parents when they called to tell her she was here!!! They all thought it was just an April Fool's joke!
Emilie has been such an amazing sister...I love you so much. You are an awesome woman of God and I feel so blessed to not only call you family, but also a friend. You are such a constant source of encouragement for me and Mike and we truly appreciate that. Thanks for always been so much fun. Here's just some of our memories together...camping (Pismo Beach, Carpinteria, and El Capitan), mud pies, makeup parties as little girls, our cabbage patch dolls, sharing a bedroom at the Cabrera house, piano lessons, horseback riding lessons, birthday parties, graduations, charades, cranium, holidays with family, fireworks at the Speedway, falling in love with our guys, playing cards 'til all hours of the night, singing with each other in Jubilation, singing at the Halfway house, singing in our cars, singing in the bathroom, :) and so many more things that my hands would start cramping. You are the bomb dot com and I love you so much. Thanks for being such a totally dudical sis and cracking me up so much. Here's to many more precious memories. Again, I love you so much and may God richly bless your 24th year and beyond!!!
This picture is of Emilie and Brice, her wonderful boyfriend at our friend Mary's 21st birthday dinner down at Citywalk. Isn't she a babe??

Happy Birthday, Kori!

Happy Birthday to my dear friend Kori!! Kori has been a friend of mine since 2nd grade when were at Highlands Elementary School. We grew up together and have so many awesome memories!! Here's to so many cool times at her old house on Barbacoa Avenue, Bass Lake, all the horse rides at her ranch in Hasley Canyon, and both of our weddings. She was one of my beautiful bridesmaids. Unfortunately, since our computer crashed, I don't have any pictures of her at all with me. But she has been a great friend through the years and I hope we will continue to stay that way!! And, she probably just gave birth to her first child some time in the last week. I just haven't been able to get a hold of her as she recently moved. Thank you, Kori, for all the fond memories growing up and for your goregous smile! You are an amazing woman and I'm sure you're going to be an amazing mother! I love you dearly.

Welcome to the World, Savannah!!!

Congratulations to my cousin Dusty and his beautiful fiance, Suzanne, on the birth of their amazing daughter! Savannah Margaret Davis was born on March 28th, in the a.m., and weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz and she was 19 1/2 inches long. Isn't she just so adorable?? Can you believe the cheeks?!? I can't wait to meet her in person and give you guys a great big hug officially welcoming you into parenthood. You both are going to be great parents!! We pray that everything will go smoothly in the next few weeks as you all adjust to your new life as a family!! We love you guys so much!! Again, Congratulations!!!

Update...

Hi everyone...we got a bug! A computer bug that is. Our computer crashed a week and a half ago and it's been so incredibly annoying! I didn't realize how much I use the computer until it was gone. I'm up at my parent's house checking my emails and doing my online banking and thought I would update the blog. Everything has been going okay for the last week or so. Cole has been sick pretty much non-stop since we got back from Solvang. First it was bad case of diarrhea (sorry, I know it's gross) and then because of that, he got an incredibly bad diaper rash that actually made his little bum bleed! It was SO sad. Now he has a cold of sorts. This morning he woke up with a fever of 102.5. My poor boy. I've got to get him better!

A major praise...I believe I have finally found something to do to make some mula. I will be watching a friend of mine from Enterprise's son. The parents are Eric and Stacy and their little guy, Justin Eric, was born on Thanksgiving Day 2005. He will be 4 months on Friday and Stacy's maternity leave is just about up. I think I'll be watching him starting April 3rd. Yeah for some money finally coming in from me. Hopefully this will be a great way to make some cash and have a buddy for Cole to play with and learn to share and what not...

Mike is at school tonight learning more things to put in that big old brain of his!

Hope all is going well with everyone. A couple of notes....

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Shaun Sawyer who turned 27 on Monday and another big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Debra Perkins who turned 24 on the same day!! I wish both of you many happy days to come!!! You are both great friends and we pray that the Lord blesses this next year! And also, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my Aunt Diana whose age shall remain anonymous :) who celebrated hers on the same day as well! A BIG BIRTHDAY DAY!

Also, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my cousin Steve and his beautiful wife Morna. They celebrated their 2nd anniversary on the 20th! They are due with their 1st baby in June and we can't wait to meet the little one!

Solvang, Baby!!

Hi Everyone!! We all got home safely from Solvang, CA yesterday afternoon. The weather was absolutely crazy, we saw snow, hail, and lots of rain, but we had a good time. We stayed up in Solvang in my parent's timeshare with the Longs and the Parsons. We drove up on Friday night and after unloading everything, went over to Brian Daly's parent's home and had a wonderful homemade Italian dinner. We had some great fellowship and relaxed while enjoying the great meal! Saturday morning, the boys (Mike, John Long, Nate Parsons, and Brian Daly) got up super early and rolled down to the Royal Scandinavian Inn where the start of the Solvang Century was located. They took off around 8:00 a.m. in 33 degree weather with great big looming clouds above. They proceeded to ride 100 miles in lots of rain, some hard core hail, and even a little snow!! It was amazing weather, but through everything, Mike finished in just over 7 hours! He came in to the finish line at 7 hours and 4 minutes! It was a very proud moment for all of us! Mike has only been riding his bike for 5 months and was pretty nervous that he didn't have it in him to finish. But, he endured with the strength of the Lord, and completed his first "century!!" All the men were pretty tired that evening, but we did manage to get everyone showered and ready for dinner. We all went out to a great little Italian restaurant called Garapolo's (sp?) and ate some wonderful food! Cole ended up getting more spaghetti sauce on my favorite sweater and his pants than in his mouth, and quite enjoyed making a mess! All of the guys headed off to bed before 9 p.m. and us girls stayed up until the kids conked out! Despite it being FREEZING, we all had a great time. We left on Sunday and stopped off in Carpinteria for lunch. We ate at an excellent little place called the Cajun Kitchen. Great food and very reasonable prices!! You better believe we'll be hitting that place up when we camp up there in April!
Now it's back to the grind. Mike will be working super hard again this week to keep up with the very demanding schedule that he has. We are very much looking forward to his spring break in April!!! It will certainly be well deserved. Thanks again for all the prayers for this weekend. Everyone finished safely and we were all very proud of our hubbies!!! Congrats to the guys for their amazing feat! And thanks for the prayers for Cole...his ear infection seems to be gone. Now he has a major diaper rash from all the antibiotics that he has had to take the last week. Other than that, he seems to be doing much better...back to his wiley, super-charged self! And...a special thanks to my parents for driving all the way to Solvang just to check us into the timeshare...they wouldn't switch the reservation to my name!! You guys are awesome and so very generous! We are all very thankful to you guys. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

March 5, 2006

My sick boy...

So yesterday morning, our little Cole woke up tugging at his left ear...and the doctor reassured us that it was just an ear infection. Our poor guy has his first ear infection. I'm so bummed. He seems to be doing better already after only 2 doses of antibiotics and some tylenol! He was his perky self today getting into mischief. Mike and I and Cole went to church this morning and attended our Sunday School class, 2 Serve. Cole got a little rowdy and so I walked around with him outside and he had a blast discovering grass, sticks, and rocks! Oh to be a little kid again and see these things for the first time. It's amazing to see your child look at something and process it for the first time when it's an everyday thing to you. Pretty awesome!
Today will be a catch-up day for us here at home. Mike is going to try and get as much homework done as he can and I get to prepare for having our taxes done tomorrow! Plus, get some fun housework done as well! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Happy Birthday Mary!

Happy 21st Birthday to my dear friend, Mary Precht. I have known Mary since she was born as she is my "god-sister" (her parents are my godparents). Mary, you are such an awesome woman and I'm so excited for this next year for you!! Mary is getting married to her man, Kyle Richardson on July 30th and I have the honor of being a bridesmaid in the wedding! I'm so very stoked!! Mary, you are a blessing to our family and we love you so much. Here's to many more vacations together, Pictionary nights, beach walks, toenail painting, my mom's hats (and hiding them), and all the wonderful memories that will be a part of our lives forever! You are a joy and I thank the Lord for you!! May He richly bless this coming year! (This picture was taken last summer at Carpinteria State Beach when Cole went on his very first beach trip!!! I wish I could be that tan!)

What's Going On..

Hi everybody...I have fallen off the "bloggin'" wagon for a little while. It's been crazy busy in the Koegle household. Valentine's Day was fun...Mike, Cole and I were down in Riverside, CA for a conference for 3 nights that Mike attended and we walked to dinner right down the street from our nice hotel. We dined at Coco's (yeah, I know) and then walked back to the hotel and enjoyed an quiet evening with the family. We have just been busy with the day to day things. This past weekend, I attended a baby shower for our wonderful friend Kristal Sawyer. She is due March 24th and our Sunday School Class through her a shower. It was a ton of fun and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Kristal, you are going to the best mama ever and remember, I'm here for you anytime!! And Mike rode his bike along with about 60 other cyclists to Santa Paula to catch a glimpse of the Tour de California race. He made it all the way there and halfway back and decided to call in back-up when his crew reached Fillmore. He rode a total of 50 miles...I know, pretty incredible. A special thanks to John Long and Brian Daly for keeping him safe on the ride! This week, Mike will be working extra hard to get caught up with school and work and then hopefully, will be able to enjoy a nice, relaxing weekend before his "century" that he will be riding in on March 11th in Solvang. (For all of you who don't know cycling terms...that means he will be riding 100 miles...in one day.) He sure loves riding with the guys and keeping in shape! I'll try and take pictures of the ride to share with you all.

We look forward to the many fun things we will do this next year and hope you will be richly blessed! You are an amazing mother and grandmother and you are VERY loved!! Posted by Picasa

Cole the Birthday Boy

This is a picture of the birthday boy at the beginning of the party! He actually slept through the first 45 minutes of his own party as he tired himself out in the morning playing with Sonny, my parents dog! Doesn't he look so cute in his little collared dress shirt...just like daddy! :) Mike loves seeing him in these kinds of outfits...a Mikey-in-the-making!  Posted by Picasa

God has so RICHLY blessed our lives with our son and we couldn't be more thankful! Cole, you are truly an angel and we love you so much!! Here is a picture of the cake that I made for the party. I know what you all are thinking...I bought the cake. But, sure enough, I made it, with the help of Mrs. Cake-maker herself, my mom!! I was very proud! It sure was tasty too! The theme of the party was Safari since Cole isn't interested in TV at all yet. But he sure does love animals!!!

Happy Birthday Mikey!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful hubby Mike! This weekend we celebrated his birthday, which was on Sunday the 22nd. We started off the weekend by playing cards with Emilie & Brice and my mom. On Saturday, we had lunch with Mike's family at Kisho. Thanks for a great time...Michelle, Bob, Brian, Lindsay, Ashlyn & Addison, Beverly, Katy & Beau!! And Sunday, the birthday day, we went to church and Sunday School class and then drove up to Santa Barbara with Chris, Trout, Emilie & Brice. We had fish & chips on the pier and walked around. Mike & Trout even went wine tasting on State Street and bought a bottle. The day was absolutely beautiful and I think Mike had a great birthday! :) I thank the Lord for you each and every day Mikey...especially your birthday!
