Solvang, Baby!!

Hi Everyone!! We all got home safely from Solvang, CA yesterday afternoon. The weather was absolutely crazy, we saw snow, hail, and lots of rain, but we had a good time. We stayed up in Solvang in my parent's timeshare with the Longs and the Parsons. We drove up on Friday night and after unloading everything, went over to Brian Daly's parent's home and had a wonderful homemade Italian dinner. We had some great fellowship and relaxed while enjoying the great meal! Saturday morning, the boys (Mike, John Long, Nate Parsons, and Brian Daly) got up super early and rolled down to the Royal Scandinavian Inn where the start of the Solvang Century was located. They took off around 8:00 a.m. in 33 degree weather with great big looming clouds above. They proceeded to ride 100 miles in lots of rain, some hard core hail, and even a little snow!! It was amazing weather, but through everything, Mike finished in just over 7 hours! He came in to the finish line at 7 hours and 4 minutes! It was a very proud moment for all of us! Mike has only been riding his bike for 5 months and was pretty nervous that he didn't have it in him to finish. But, he endured with the strength of the Lord, and completed his first "century!!" All the men were pretty tired that evening, but we did manage to get everyone showered and ready for dinner. We all went out to a great little Italian restaurant called Garapolo's (sp?) and ate some wonderful food! Cole ended up getting more spaghetti sauce on my favorite sweater and his pants than in his mouth, and quite enjoyed making a mess! All of the guys headed off to bed before 9 p.m. and us girls stayed up until the kids conked out! Despite it being FREEZING, we all had a great time. We left on Sunday and stopped off in Carpinteria for lunch. We ate at an excellent little place called the Cajun Kitchen. Great food and very reasonable prices!! You better believe we'll be hitting that place up when we camp up there in April!
Now it's back to the grind. Mike will be working super hard again this week to keep up with the very demanding schedule that he has. We are very much looking forward to his spring break in April!!! It will certainly be well deserved. Thanks again for all the prayers for this weekend. Everyone finished safely and we were all very proud of our hubbies!!! Congrats to the guys for their amazing feat! And thanks for the prayers for Cole...his ear infection seems to be gone. Now he has a major diaper rash from all the antibiotics that he has had to take the last week. Other than that, he seems to be doing much better...back to his wiley, super-charged self! And...a special thanks to my parents for driving all the way to Solvang just to check us into the timeshare...they wouldn't switch the reservation to my name!! You guys are awesome and so very generous! We are all very thankful to you guys. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Congrats, Mikey, on finishing! Sounds like it was challenging but a lot of fun!

All the best with all the busy-ness this week. We'll try to keep Baby Sawyer in until your busy-ness dies down a bit. We'd love to see you all there!

Love,
Kristal =)
